Dr Ben Smith is a clinical research physiotherapist based at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton/University of Nottingham, UK.

Ben’s research interest includes the management of persistent MSK pain and the role of exercise and physical activity in prevention and treatment. In 2016 he won a prestigious Department of Health Fellowship to conduct a PhD at the University of Nottingham related to the assessment and management of patellofemoral pain in young adults, particularly concerning exercise prescription, the role of pain-related fear and pain during exercise.

Since completing the PhD, he was successfully awarded a further Department of Health Fellowship at the Nottingham Clinical Trial Unit where he is developing his research interests towards the running of large multi-centre trials for complex physiotherapy intervention for adults and young people with knee pain and interventions to improve physical activity levels in adolescents.
